Evaluative Course Series Introduction

Misinformation is everywhere. From fake news to competing perspectives, finding truth in this new world has become more complex. Students need to test and interrogate information for themselves or risk being told what to think and do. As we face the future, nurturing evaluative students will help students make the best decisions possible.

Why being evaluative is important

Traditionally confined to formal work by evaluation professionals, evaluative skills are becoming universally relevant for students as a critical skill for the future of work. Creatable has drawn on existing research into evaluation to underpin this course, and highlight the shared value of evaluative thinking across education and industry settings.

How to measure evaluative skills in students

Before diving into nurturing evaluative students, it is important to establish a baseline of where student abilities presently lie. Creatable’s rubric articulates each aspect of evaluation in detail, so that you can understand current strengths and limitations before applying the learnings from this course.

Evaluation Do’s and Don’ts with Rooftop Social (Part 1)
In this new mini series, Rydr explores the critical skill of Evaluation with Dr Duncan Rintoul, director at Rooftop Social; research, evaluation and capacity building consultancy. They chat about how educators can leverage evaluative skills in their practice, opportunities for reflection cycles in schools and why faking it to make it does more harm than good in evaluative practice.
